We hope that all of our families have enjoyed a happy and restful summer break. It has been wonderful to welcome our children back to school and to see classrooms quickly filling with smiles, stories and enthusiasm for the year ahead.
A couple of quick reminders as we settle into the new term:
Stay Connected Please ensure you have signed up to ClassDojo, which remains our main platform for sharing class news, updates and celebrations. We also encourage all families to sign up to the My Child at School (MCAS) app, which allows you to update important contact information and personal details quickly and easily. Keep an eye out for a registration email.
Label Belongings Despite only being a few days into term, we already have a number of unnamed jumpers and items waiting to be reunited with their owners. Clearly labelling clothing, water bottles and other belongings makes a huge difference.
Uniform.We love to see our pupils in our school uniform to emphasise that feeling of belonging. Whilst we know that this is not always possible, if you need any support with where to purchase this please ask the office or enquire about our uniform swap shop.
Being Ready for the Day We ask families to support children in arriving on time each morning. Learning begins straight away, with classes engaging in settling-in activities, reading and purposeful learning tasks from the start of the day. Arriving promptly helps children feel calm, prepared and ready to make the most of every opportunity.
Parking and Road Safety The roads around school are currently a little quieter while many student properties remain vacant. However, parking will become increasingly challenging as the term progresses. If possible, please consider a “park and walk” approach for the final part of your journey.
Walking Home Independently
As children grow older, we recognise the importance of developing independence and responsibility. For our Year 6 pupils, many families begin to consider whether their child is ready to walk home independently from school.
Children may only leave the school site unaccompanied where we have received written parental consent. While every child develops confidence at different rates, we would generally hope that by Year 6, many pupils are beginning to develop the skills and confidence needed to manage familiar routes safely, helping prepare them for the greater independence they will experience in secondary school.
The journey to and from Brynmill Primary is manageable for many children when appropriate arrangements are in place and parents are satisfied that their child is ready. If you would like your child to walk home independently, please ensure the necessary permission has been provided to the school office.
Parking
For the safety of all children and families, please avoid parking on zig-zag markings, double yellow lines, pavements or in ways that obstruct residents and other road users. By working together as a school community, we can help ensure that everyone arrives and leaves safely.
Improvement focus
As we begin a new school year, we are looking forward to nurturing curious, confident and caring learners. This term we will continue to strengthen our focus on reading, develop children’s use of the Welsh language, and provide rich, authentic learning experiences that help children make meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope your child has settled well into their new class, and we look forward to a fantastic year together.
May I take this opportunity to wish you thank you for a lovely first year as Headteacher. I am hugely proud of everything the children have achieved. It’s been a long term and a very hot and sticky end! I would also like to wish you a relaxing and enjoyable summer break.

Mrs Hogan has been a valued member of the Brynmill team over the past few years, particularly in this last year in Year 5/6. She has brough enthusiasm, creativity and care to every role she has undertaken. Whether through her passion for languages and dance or the strong relationships she has built with pupils, she has made a lasting impact. Her kindness, support and commitment will be greatly missed. We wish her every success and happiness in the future.
Mrs Xu
Abby has brought warmth, positivity and generosity to our school community from the very beginning. Her wonderful smile, flexibility and willingness to help wherever needed have made her a much-loved colleague. As she returns to China to begin her Master’s studies, we thank her for all she has contributed to Brynmill and wish her every success in this exciting new chapter. We hope the special Welsh keepsake she received will serve as a lasting reminder of her time in Wales and the friendships she has made here.
Mrs Edwards Seham has been a cherished part of the Brynmill family for many years, and even after retiring once, her love for the school brought her back for a second chapter with us. Her beautiful laugh, kind heart and unwavering care for others have touched the lives of countless children, families and colleagues over the years. Always generous with her time, support and encouragement, Seham has made a lasting difference to our school community. As she retires once again, we thank her for her dedication, friendship and everything she has given to Brynmill. She will be greatly missed, and we wish her a happy, healthy and well-deserved retirement.
I look forward to seeing everyone back safe and sound in the Autumn term. And of course, all the very best to Year 6 who are moving on to their next chapter!

Battery Recycling Challenge – Thank You!
Over the past year, Brynmill Primary School proudly took part in Swansea Council’s Schools Battery Recycling Competition, helping to keep batteries out of landfill and protect our environment. Thanks to the fantastic support of our pupils, families and staff, we collected an impressive 36kg of used batteries during the competition.
We’re delighted to share that Swansea Council and the European Recycling Platform (ERP) will be running the competition again during the 2026-27 academic year, and Brynmill Primary will be taking part once more. So, as you have a summer clear-out, please save your used household batteries and bring them into school when we return in September.
Thank you for helping us make our school and community a little greener. Let’s see if we can beat our 36kg total next year!
Welsh Water Support
We know the summer holidays can bring extra financial pressure as parents, guardians and carers try to keep little ones entertained and fed. Welsh Water offer a range of help and support that could reduce household costs and take some of the stress out of summer.
What a year it’s been! We’re incredibly proud of all the events and fundraisers we’ve hosted, bringing our school community together while raising valuable funds for our much-loved school.
The biggest of thank yous must go to all our wonderful volunteers, without you, there simply wouldn’t be a PTA.
We’ve had a record number of volunteers this year, particularly at our Summer Fete. Your support helped everything run smoothly and meant we could offer plenty of games and stalls for everyone to enjoy.
Thank you to everyone who attended our events throughout the year. We’re so grateful for your support, and it has been wonderful to see so many families joining in and enjoying themselves.
We’d also like to thank:
– Everyone who generously donated prizes for our school raffles, which are such an important part of our fundraising.
– All the brilliant bakers who donated cakes, baked goods and tasty treats throughout the year.
– The school staff who supported our PTA events and generously gave their time.
Thanks to the funds raised this year, we’ve been able to give every class teacher £300 to spend on classroom resources ready for September.
For all the Nursery & Reception pupils, parents and carers we are hosting a meet up on Sunday 30th August in The Hide in Brynmill Park from 1:30-2:30pm. It’s a lovely opportunity for children to meet as well as parents and carers before the new school term starts. Please RSVP to friendsofbrynmill@gmail.com if you can join. We’d love to see as many of you there as possible. Poster included below.
We can’t wait to welcome you all back next year! Our first event will be a family sponsored walk in September to raise money for our outdoor provisions followed by our Autumn Disco in October and we’re already looking forward to both!

Green Scene Volunteer Session
Sunday 19th July | 10:00–12:30 Brynmill Primary School De Breos entrance
No experience required, and all tools and refreshments are provided… including slabs of Exotica’s finest watermelon!
Please bring a water bottle, hat and suncream as it’s forecast to be hot and sunny.
We’ll be helping keep the school gardens green and most importantly hydrated. There will be lots of watering required, some clearing of an old rotten bed, weeding and sweeping as well as snacks and tea!

With the extra hot weather Green Scene are in desperate need for some watering warriors over the summer holidays to keep our gardens alive.

Attendance
As we reach the end of another busy school year, we would like to thank all our families for their ongoing support in helping children attend school regularly and punctually. Our overall school attendance for 2025-26 was 92.6%.
We know there are times when children are unwell and need to be at home to recover. We also appreciate how well most families communicate with us when absence is unavoidable. Your support helps us ensure that children are safe and accounted for each day.
Every day in school matters. Regular attendance helps children make the most of their learning, build confidence, develop friendships and fully engage in the wide range of opportunities available at our school. While our attendance this year fell slightly below our whole-school target of 94.5%, we remain committed to working together to improve attendance and ensure every child has the best possible chance to succeed.
Thank you once again for your support throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another successful year of learning.

A Reminder About Parking and Consideration for Our Community
We would like to remind all parents and carers of the importance of being considerate to our neighbours and other road users during drop-off and pick-up times.
We have received concerns about vehicles arriving early and waiting with engines running outside the school and in surrounding streets. Idling vehicles create unnecessary pollution, impact air quality around our children, and contribute to noise for local residents. If you arrive early, please switch off your engine while waiting.
We have also had reports of adults and children sitting on or gathering around the walls and boundaries of neighbouring properties while waiting for the school day to start or finish. These walls are part of private property, and we ask everyone to respect our neighbours by avoiding trespassing and keeping clear of their homes and gardens.
Please park safely, avoid obstructing pavements, and be mindful of pedestrians, cyclists, residents, and other road users at all times. The school values its positive relationship with the local community, and we expect all members of our school community to act respectfully and responsibly.

Ipayimpact Announcement
iPayimpact will be undergoing a payment system update over the course of July.
What this means for parents/carers:
Any saved card details parents had in iPayimpact will be removed. Parents will need to re-enter their card details.
Any automatic payments will be paused until the parent adds a new card and reapplies it to their automatic payment settings.
The checkout screen will look slightly different, but all features remain the same.
Parents using Apple Pay or Google Pay are not affected.
Refunds continue to work as normal, including for payments made before the update.
Parents will receive an email directly when our school is switched over, and banners will appear in the app and website to guide you through any actions needed. Parents with automatic payments that need attention will see a specific prompt when they log in.

Attendance
As a school, we continue to promote and improve attendance so every child can make the most of their time here. Here are a few reminders regarding attendance:
When children are ill, they need to rest at home. Please notify the school on the first morning of absence and keep us updated if the absence continues.
With stomach upset children have to stay at home for 48 hours after the last time they vomited or had diarrhoea.
Any routine medical, dental or other appointments should be booked out of school hours whenever possible.
Booking a term time holiday can be tempting but please consider the impact of this to your child’s education.
Regular attendance helps children not only to keep up with learning but also feel more confident and stay connected with their peers.
Our whole school attendance target is 94.5%. Here are some examples of how end of year attendance percentages equate to missed learning time:
90% attendance = approximately one month of school missed
80% attendance = approximately one half term missed
65% attendance = approximately one full term missed
50% attendance = half of school year missed
Our Cluster Education Welfare Officer (EWO), employed by the Local Authority, monitors attendance closely and may contact families to discuss ongoing absence or punctuality concerns.
Together, we can make sure every child has the best chance to succeed.

Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Xu and Mrs Hogan at the end of term. Both have been wonderful additions to our school community, and we would like to thank them for their dedication and contribution to Brynmill Primary. We wish them every success and happiness in the future.
We will also be saying farewell to Mrs Seham Edwards as she begins a well-deserved retirement. After 30 years of providing invaluable bilingual support to the children and families of Brynmill Primary, Mrs Edwards will be missed. We thank her for her years of commitment, care and service, and wish her a long, happy and fulfilling retirement.
Caswell & Oxwich Sports Day
We are looking forward to Sports Day for our Caswell and Oxwich pupils, which will take place on Tuesday 7th July at the Astro Turf Pitches, Cwm Farm Lane, Sketty, SA2 9AU. Please note that the venue is in a slightly different location from last year.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend and support the children. Spectators are welcome from 10:00am. Please be aware that the designated spectator area is uncovered, so we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather. Please refer to the images below for further information.
Children should arrive at school as normal. They will need to wear:

Their House colour T-shirt (children received a sticker today detailing their House Team and colour)
A sunhat
Sun cream
Please also ensure that your child brings a named water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the morning.
The Friends of Brynmill PTA will kindly provide a fruit snack at break time, and all children will return to school in time for lunch.
In the event of wet weather, unfortunately the event will need to be cancelled. We will notify families as soon as possible if this becomes necessary.

Leavers Party 2026
Green Scene News
We had a brilliant Green Scene volunteer session last weekend, with lots achieved across the school grounds.
In the Caswell & Oxwich yard, volunteers planted squash, tomatoes, peppers and courgettes in the new veg patch. We also planted sunflowers in the Pobbles bike yard, which should bring some lovely colour over the coming weeks.
Work also continued on the Rainbow Yard sensory garden project, with volunteers sanding pallets ready for painting. These will be used to help create a new mud kitchen area.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped. It was a really productive morning and lovely to see the school’s outdoor spaces continuing to develop.
Our next session will take place on Sunday 19th July. We hope you can join us!

Attendance
Many thanks to all parents who always inform us promptly of their children’s absences. It really is helpful and saves us a lot of unnecessary work, as well as the need for us to interrupt your day with our messages and phone calls. As a reminder, if your child is absent, for any reason, please let us know by 9:30am either via Dojo message (to Office please), email (brynmill.primary@swansea-edunet.gov.uk) or telephone (01792 463019). If the reason is an illness that you know will continue for a few days, there is no need to contact us daily, as long as you notify us of this on Day 1. Communication is key!

I am delighted to share some recent Pupil Voice successes with you.
Firstly, a huge thank you to the Friends of Brynmill Primary, our Enterprise Troopers with Mrs Powell, and of course our wonderful pupils and staff. Together, they created such innovative, beautiful and creative products to sell at our Summer Fete — and what a success it was! I can certainly say my own pockets were a lot emptier by the end!
This work also supported our contribution to the Swansea Enterprise Challenge. Our Enterprise Troopers had a fantastic time selling their products to the public in the city centre alongside other Swansea schools — a brilliant opportunity to build confidence and real-world skills.
Both of these events demonstrate how our pupils are given a genuine voice in the life of the school. I have no doubt they will have plenty of ideas about how best to spend the profits!
Finally, we are excited to share the long-awaited launch of our school podcast. Our Digital Wizards work in teams to record and compile short weekly interviews with learners across the school, as well as celebrating our Stars of the Week.
It’s still a work in progress, with seven episodes available so far to enjoy. The podcast is hosted on Spotify with comments switched off. To reassure parents, all recordings are made with adult support and no personal information is shared.
We think this is an innovative addition to how we capture and celebrate pupil voice, and we hope you enjoy listening — and perhaps even follow for future episodes!

If you would like to order a Year 6 Leavers Hoodie for those children who will being Year 6 next year (2026-2027), please complete the form below, and pay on iPay. When we have reached the minimum order we will place the order with the supplier.

We wanted to share some free webinars from an external organisation (NeuroPathways Clinic) that may be of interest to parents, carers and support staff. These are not school‑run sessions, but ones we thought could be helpful.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Summer Fête, and to all of the brilliant volunteers who helped before, during and after the event.
Thanks to your support, we raised an amazing £911.34 for our school.
A big well done to all of the classes who worked so hard creating things for their enterprise stalls, they were fantastic! Thank you also to the teachers and staff who helped during the fête and supported the children with their stalls.
We’re so grateful to everyone who donated food, helped run stalls, set up, packed away, played games, bought treats and supported the day in any way. Events like this simply wouldn’t happen without our wonderful school community.

Green Scene News
Our next Green Scene volunteer session will take place on Sunday 28th June from 10:00am.
This month, we’ll be starting to sand and prepare a collection of wooden pallets for our Rainbow Yard mud kitchens. This will form part of a much bigger project to transform the Rainbow Yard from a tricky concrete space into a sensory garden and haven for our pupils with special educational needs.
We’ll also be weeding, watering, and continuing to take down the last of the large rotten bed in the Bracelet Yard.
We’d love as many helpers as possible!
As always, everyone is welcome, no experience is needed, and all tools and refreshments will be provided.

Attendance
As a school, we continue to promote and improve attendance so every child can make the most of their time here. Here are a few reminders regarding attendance:
When children are ill, they need to rest at home. Please notify the school on the first morning of absence and keep us updated if the absence continues.
With stomach upset children have to stay at home for 48 hours after the last time they vomited or had diarrhoea.
Any routine medical, dental or other appointments should be booked out of school hours whenever possible.
Booking a term time holiday can be tempting but please consider the impact of this to your child’s education.
Regular attendance helps children not only to keep up with learning but also feel more confident and stay connected with their peers.
Our whole school attendance target is 94.5%. Here are some examples of how end of year attendance percentages equate to missed learning time:
90% attendance = approximately one month of school missed
80% attendance = approximately one half term missed
65% attendance = approximately one full term missed
50% attendance = half of school year missed
Our Cluster Education Welfare Officer (EWO), employed by the Local Authority, monitors attendance closely and may contact families to discuss ongoing absence or punctuality concerns.
Together, we can make sure every child has the best chance to succeed.

This global arts and culture festival provides an opportunity for our school community to reflect on the importance of kindness, understanding, and belonging.

Summer Fete Alternative Pickup Gates
The summer fete is next week! As it is taking place in the front yard, the following changes will be made for pick up at the end of day on Tuesday.
Caswell H & Caswell M -Please collect from Gate 5 on Waterloo Place, after Nursery & Reception children have been collected.
Oxwich E – Please collect from Gate 3 on Kemble St – after Bracelet children have been collected.
Oxwich H– Please collect from Gate 4 on De Breos Street.
Caswell N & Oxwich M will be collected from their normal gate.
Please collect your children before returning to the main yard to come to the fete. Reminder the fete is a cash only event. Thank you.
Parking at School
We know that parking can be difficult, especially at busy times. By working together, we can keep the area safe and calm for everyone, especially the children. Please be considerate of our neighbours and model respectful behaviour. Our local PCSO has asked us to bring the following to your attention:
Switch off your engine while waiting (reduces emissions).
Do not park on double yellow lines or in residents’ spaces.
Keep yellow zigzag areas clear.
Do not mount pavements when unloading.
Do not stop in the middle of the road to drop off.
Do not park in resident’s parking.
If possible: Park further away and walk the last part of your journey. This reduces congestion and improves safety. Small changes make a big difference—thank you for your support.
Multi-Sports Holiday Camps – Ages 5–13
Multi-Sports Holiday Camps are running at Swansea University Sports Village during summer holidays.
The camps provide safe, structured physical activity, focusing on fun, confidence-building, teamwork, and child wellbeing. They are led by DBS-checked coaches in a fully supervised environment. For full details and booking information, please visit www.multi-sport.co.uk.

Children enter for free. Adults £1.50.
A gentle reminder that parents and carers are responsible for their children at all times during the event.
A huge thank you to everyone who has already offered to help before, during or after our Summer Fête. We really appreciate your support!
We are still short of 2 volunteers for set up from 1:15pm and 5 volunteers during the event from 3:00pm.
Without enough helpers, we may sadly need to scale back some of the stalls. If you’re able to lend a hand, or know a grandparent, neighbour or friend who might be happy to help, we’d love to hear from you.

However, even two or three days each term can add up and begin to affect progress. Our learners are busy from the moment they arrive, and each day builds on previous skills, routines and understanding. Regular attendance helps children keep up, feel confident and stay connected.

Bishop Gore transition days for Year 6’s are on the 25th and 26th of June. Students have been asked to wear their Brynmill School uniforms or their Leaver’s Hoodies. If you need any uniform items for this, the Friends of Brynmill have shirts and jumpers available for 50p a piece. Please come to the office on Wednesdays between 2:30 and 3:00 pm, if you need to purchase any items.

This friendly workshop will share simple and practical ways to help children develop their English at home. Parents do not need strong English skills to support their child’s learning.

Talking and listening at home
Reading together
Supporting writing and vocabulary
Using home language positively
The workshop will include easy ideas, everyday strategies, and useful resources for families.

Just over one week to go until our Summer Fete!
This year, we’re celebrating the many cultures that make up our wonderful Brynmill community with an International Food theme.
The fete will take place on Tuesday 16th June, 3:30–5pm, but we urgently need more volunteers to make it happen.
We still need:
x5 volunteers to help with set up from 1–3:30pm
x10 volunteers to help run stalls and activities from 3–5pm
If you’re not able to volunteer yourself, could a family member or friend help out? Even a short amount of time would make a huge difference.
Instead of our usual bake sale, we’ll be creating a special food stall filled with homemade dishes, sweet treats and bakes from around the world. We’d love families to get involved by sharing something that represents a culture, country or family favourite.

We hope you all have a wonderful and sunny half term. Don’t forget Monday, June 1st is an INSET day and the school will be closed to pupils.
We are very pleased to welcome Mrs Timaeus back from her maternity leave. Mrs Timaeus will be co‑teaching in the Pobbles Reception class alongside Mrs Nicholas when we resume classes.
A wonderful lady named Judith, who used to come to Brynmill and now works for Macmillan Distribution has very generously donated a huge collection of books to us. There are both non-fiction and fiction books and they vary in age ranges. All of our pupils will get to enjoy these soon! Thank you so much Judith!

Term Time Holidays
If you are planning to take your child out of school for a holiday or a family event, please let us know with as much notice as possible. You need to fill in our ‘Absence Request Form’ ideally at least 10 school days in advance. Absence Request Form 2025-2026 – Fill in form
Where possible taking of term time holidays is actively discouraged. Parents are advised to avoid term time disruption and reminded of the link between attainment and attendance. Please note, Welsh Government state that parents should not expect or be led to expect that there is an automatic right to withdraw their child from school during term time. Please be aware that, in line with national guidance, any request for authorised term time absence will be judged on merit and may not be authorised. Welsh Government guidance states that schools cannot authorise holidays retrospectively.
All other absences –
For illnesses, appointments or anything unexpected, there is no need to fill in the form but please notify the school as soon as you are able to. You can do this either by sending a Dojo message to The Office, calling us or leaving a voice message on 01792 463019, or emailing at brynmill.primary@swansea-edunet.gov.uk.
Let’s work together to keep our whole school attendance nice and high for the last part of this Summer term! Our attendance target is 94.5% – as a school this week, we achieved 91.1%. Together, we can make sure every child has the best chance to succeed.

I wanted to provide an early update regarding our upcoming Sports Days so that you are aware of the arrangements we are currently working towards.
Pobbles and Bracelet Sports Days Sports Day for Pobbles and Bracelet will take a similar form to last year. As we will again be using the park, the event will need to remain fairly low-key to ensure it is safe and manageable for all pupils in a public space. We do know it will take place during the week commencing 29th June, but we will have to keep it flexible to allow for weather variations.
Caswell and Oxwich Sports Day Unfortunately, we were unable to secure both our larger venues this year. Both St Helen’s Rugby Ground and the outdoor athletics track are unavailable due to ongoing renovations over the summer.
As a result, we have had to explore an alternative interim solution. We have provisionally booked the indoor athletics Track in Swansea Bay Sports Park (Ashleigh Road) for the morning of Tuesday 7th July. However, this venue presents some challenges, most notably the lack of spectator space.
We are currently in discussion with the venue to see whether a temporary viewing area could be made available—potentially using a stand on the adjacent astroturf hockey pitch. At present, this is not confirmed, and we will update you as soon as we have further clarity.
We appreciate that this may limit opportunities for parents to attend and support in the usual way. Please be assured that our priority is to ensure a safe, well-organised event for all pupils. We felt it was important to give you early notice of the situation and ask for your understanding as we continue planning.
