Area Final

I am excited to report that our Cross Country team completed their final qualifying match on Monday. Conditions were a little wetter this time, but I was so proud of how they competed and showed resilience in fighting all the way to the finish line.

As a result, Lili (2nd in Race 1) and Blake ( 3 wins out of 3)  had already qualified for the Area Final courtesy of their individual performances. But thanks to their hard work as a TEAM, I am pleased to say that both the Boys and the Girls Teams have qualified for the Area final on 29th March. Not bad in our first year of training!

Congratulations and Well done Team Brynmill!

Outcomes of Community Links Questionnaire December 2018

Outcomes of Community Links Questionnaire December 2018

Thank you all for your responses. They were very useful in informing our vision for Parent Workshops in the future.

The main question results can be seen in the following link

Outcomes of Community Links Questionnaire December 2018

Additional responses included requests for detail on the following:

  • Well being
  • Fitting in to school
  • Supporting children’s learning at home
  • Outdoor experiences
  • Music and the Arts
  • Welsh

We will consider how to best accommodate these into a programme of workshops over the coming year.

In response to a few queries, Welsh is taught across all year groups in the form of short bursts of speaking and listening that we call Slott Ddrilio as well as through weekly longer lessons involving reading and writing appropriate to their age. We also report on Welsh Attainment as part of our annual reports and to give an overall Welsh Level at end of KS2.

The remit of this questionnaire was to establish greater home school links rather than provide detail on individual children’s progress, which is better achieved through Class Dojo and discussions at Parents Meetings. The next ones are scheduled in March.

Thanks again,

Mr Davies

Internet Safety Day 2019

Thank you to those who came to our first Parent Workshop on Wed 6th Feb. The Digital Leaders did a fantastic job sharing the E Safety Policy, Acceptable Use Guidance and information on Social Media. I think the information we shared on what we teach was also well received.

It was great to share opinions and concerns about Social Media the effect of too much screen time. We would urge all parents to engage with their children about some of the use of social media, including WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram, where we hear of issues around privacy and poor choices being made. I will post further materials from the workshop in due course within the E Safety menu.

The ages of consent are as follows:

Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat – 13 years.

WhatsApp – 16yrs.

Internet Safety Day assembly (1) – presentation from the workshop

The school’s response to social media issues:

“Whilst we are duty bound to pass on any offensive material that is shared with us, our role is not to police the use of Social Media amongst pupils outside school.

The school asserts the following guidance:

  • WhatsApp’s age has recently been upgraded to 16.
  • Pupils should NOT be adding contacts and creating groups for the purposes of sharing offensive posts with pupils.
  • Passing on offensive material is considered legally to be on a par with initiating it.
  • Making multiple groups/ multiple Admins is inadvisable at best.
  • Should parents feel that their child is emotionally responsible enough to use apps such as WhatsApp despite being considerably underage, we advise that you discuss this with your child and agree boundaries.

Please be assured that your child’s emotional well being is important to us and we are keen to work in partnership with parents on a range of E Safety concerns. With this in mind please follow this link for further guidance.

Cross Country 30/1/19

Well done to those who have stuck it out in the cold and wet! We ran the same course as in the first few weeks of training to see how much of an improvement they have made. Despite the slippery conditions, everyone has made huge improvements and should be proud of their endurance and speed. Well done everyone!

Cross Country 10/10/18

Well done to everyone this week. It was a bit harder today,  very warm and we did a slightly longer course. I hope the mud arrives soon, or it won’t feel like proper cross country!

Here are their times. It was slightly longer, but I’m so proud of how they are progressing!

There is a Cross Country schools race next Tuesday – I’ll post details on Class Dojo. However, I’m afraid the rules state that only children aged 10 and over can take part. I’ll try and organise something for all our athletes – even if it’s just a more formal race or I’ll see if there are any Wales Athletics events that we could attend as guests.

Cross Country 3/10/18

Well done everyone this week. We did 2 laps for those that wanted to (most did do it !) However, I only timed the first lap, except for 2 who I missed so they only have a time for the whole thing. Well done again!

Week 2 Training

Well done to all who came this week! We are finding the long grass quite tricky! But no mud yet. As soon as we’ve had a few more sessions the children can post their own race reports. I’ll also try and get a few pictures. The idea is that they can compare their times each week and see their improvement.
