Welcome to this website about coral reefs!

Corals are small marine mammals that stay in one place throughout their adult lives. A coral reef is an underwater ecosystem characterised by reef-building corals. Reefs are formed of colonies of coral polyps held together by calcium carbonate. Coral reefs have different shapes and patterns, simply because of the growth pattern of the millions of tiny individual animals that make up a colony.A type of coral, called brain coral, is nearly spherical and has grooves that make it look like a human brain! Isn’t that weird?

In this website, you will learn about creatures that live in coral reefs, find out where coral reefs are found, look at our poetry based on Mandy Coe’s Extinct and admire some of our individual sea creature art! Enjoy!
