Where are coral reefs found?

Coral reefs can be found in tropical destinations around the world, mostly in areas around the equator where the water is warmer. More than 100 countries have a coral reef within their borders, and over half of the world’s coral reefs are found within six countries: Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Maldives and Caribbean sea.

The largest reefs are found in the warmer portions of the Pacific and Indian ocean. However, coral reefs are also found in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico as far north as southern Florida in the United States.
